Regalitos

I am not a very creative person but this holiday season something came over me....
I tried to spread some holiday cheer in these little boxes.

Inside were "Polvorones" aka "Mexican wedding cookies" and these cute little "ratoncitos" aka chocolate mice.

Although you can't tell from my picture above (note to self or hubby!  I NEED A CAMERA! hint hint), they were a huge hit!

The cookies were so easy to make and really delicious!  Here is the recipe I used if anyone is curious how to make them.

The ratoncitos were everyone's fav!

So I thought I'd share la receta.

Ingrdients
  • 1 jar of marachino cherries with the stems
  • 1/2 cup of milk chocolate chips
  • Hershey kisses
  • almond slivers
  • icing used to decorate cookies ( I used red and white)

Drain the cherries.  Rinse them with water then let them dry.  It's important they are not wet!

Put 1/2 cup of chocolate chips in a bowl and microwave until melted.  I did 30 seconds, stirred, then 30 seconds more.  (you could also melt them in a double boiler or whatever that method is called)
Sorry, I'm not baking savvy!  We need Leslie Limon from La Cocina de Leslie  to chime in on this.

Be careful that the chocolate doesn't burn!  No one likes burnt chocolate!

Dip the cherries in the chocolate making sure they are covered really good.  Once dipped, sit on a sheet of wax paper.

Add 2 almond slivers for the ears.

Stick the Hershey's kiss on for the face.

Ay, all those ratoncitos were giving me the heebee jeebies!

For the final touch add some eyes and tada!!!

Hoping everyone has a Feliz Navidad!!!

El Elfo

As most of you know, on Fridays I try my hardest to participate in Latinaish's "Spanish Friday."  It is open to all bloggers who wish to post something in Spanish.  It is great practice for me!  So here is my post today.  An English translation is below in italics.

El Elfo en la Platforma
The Elf on the Shelf

Nuestro elfo llego!
(Our elf arrived!  My son is happy that "Glowy" is here.)

(After sitting on the shelf all day watching my son, the elf flies to the north pole and reports to Santa if my son was bad or good.)

"Glowy" es muy travieso!  Todas las mañanas despues de despertar, hay una sopresa esperandonos.
("Glowy" is really mischevious!  Every morning after waking up, there is a surprise awaiting us.)

"Glowy" ha hecho las siguienes:
("Glowy has done the following:)

(Ate donuts and there was powder on his face to prove it!)

(He played the "Angry Birds" game and put all the stuffed animals on the sofa as his audience.)

(He has decorated the Christmas tree with my son's underwear.)

(The first thing my son does in the morning is look for the elf to see what he got into.

(There is nothing more spectacular than the innocence and belief in magic that my son shows me.)
