Remember MacGyver? (some of the younger folks may need to look it up on YouTube)
MacGyver could do anything! He took everyday items and did the impossible with them. He once diffused a bomb with solomente un paperclip!
Sometimes hubby reminds me of MacGyver. The Mexican is very good at thinking outside of the box.
I think a lot of this is due to him having to be resourceful while growing up in Mexico. He has come up with many solutions that I never would have thought of.
When raised in the U.S., everything is so accessible. Everything is within easy reach. I remember telling hubby once that we needed to go to Home Depot and buy some pine straw for our flower beds.
"Why do you want to get it from Home Depot? We've got plenty right here," he responded.
Sure enough, hubby gathered pine straw from underneath the pine trees. We had more than enough to fill our flower beds.
The above story was just one small example of how hubby thinks outside of the box. I would have hopped in the car and driven to the store and bought pine straw, because where else would you get it... DUH!
He has many MacGyver moments as well.....
He has repaired numerous things in very creative ways.
Today, he had a MacGyver moment!
Our son has been begging for a kite. The Easter bunny brought him one, but it didn't last very long.
Son was upset and hubby told him not to worry, he would make him one. He walked over to a tree and broke off two branches. Came inside and grabbed a garbage bag. Got some thread and scissors out of his sewing kit and just like that, constructed a freakin' kite!
Am I lucky or what! I have my own personal MacGyver living with me.
All joking aside, I love this trait hubby possesses. I feel confident if some kind of natural disaster occurs, between my water and food storage and hubby's MacGyver skills..... we'll be okay.
That is so cool!! I am sure his talent is from his life in Mexico!! Amazing people they are!!!
ReplyDeleteI think you are probably right! He is very creative! Thanks for commenting amiga.
DeleteHe's practical, smart, and obviously has good taste in women.
ReplyDeleteYou hit the nail on the head with your description, especially the part about good taste in women... hehehee ;)
DeleteI've always said a Mexican can fix anything with chewing gum and baling wire. I mean it as a compliment.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right! Definitely a compliment.... Most gringos would just stare at those items with a "huh" look on their face.
DeleteI've never seen MacGyver, but I understand what you are talking about. My grandmother was like that, and I think you are right, we've turned into a culture where the first thing we think of is buying something new rather than fixing what we have (or making it). Just think of how great it is for your son to see your husband doing a little creative thinking - that's something that he can learn to do, too!
ReplyDeleteYes Susan! I'm glad that my son is able to see their are other alternatives to making/fixing something other than buying a solution! My son tends to think out of the box some too, which makes me wonder if it is hereditary some what. He definitely didn't get it from mama!
DeleteComo decimos en PR. Te ganastes la lotería with your husband. You are one of the lucky ones. :-)
ReplyDeleteAwww! Thanks! Yes, I feel like I won the lottery with him. I realize I am lucky! Thanks for your sweet comment! <3
DeleteLOL..I must be the Mexican Macguyver in my house. I am so like that. I try and rig everything to work or make it last longer just like my Abuelo!!
ReplyDeleteJust proves we learn from example. I bet your abuelo was a great man.
DeleteHow awesome! I love my husband to death, but he does not have that MacGyver quality at all. He doesn't even have a singe fix-it/build-it bone in his body! It's great that the Mexican is so creative! The kite looks awesome, Tara! Now I want to make one with my kids :) FUN!
ReplyDeleteJen,
DeleteI'm still shocked it flew! Not only that it flew, but high! He built it in 5 mins. flat! Crazy! My brother is like your hubby, luckily he lives next door... LOL
My hubby grew up poor in Mexico, and he's very resourceful too.
ReplyDelete--Janis--
Not sure our husbands would see it this way, but this may be blessings in disguise. I'm sure no one wants to grow up poor, but there are tons of skills and lessons learned when growing up in that situation.
DeleteThanks for commenting, Janis.
Reminds me of Javi, he will always come up with some solution that I never would have thought of.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great Lisa! I try to think like that, but it just doesn't come to me like it does to him.
DeleteThanks for your comment!
Que suerte tienes! Mi esposo, como el de Jen, no tiene up hueso MacGyver tampoco. Quebra todo lo que toca. Your hubbie should do a "Make-a-Kite" tutorial on YouTube!
