The Mexican and I dated for a while (bout 4 yrs) got married, then had a son.
Our son is in pre-k and I guess they play a rhyming game at school.
So, we are in the car and "son" says, "let's play the rhyming game!" I said "ok, CAR"
son, "STAR", -the mexican "BRIGHT"-
me, "no, no, no.... you have to say something that RHYMES like BAR!"
So, we try it again. me,"CAT"-son,"RAT",-the mexican"DAT"
son,"what is a "dat"???
me,"your father is trying to say "THAT"
me, "Let's think of a different game!"
I was telling a friend about this and she said it sounded like a Modern Family (television show) moment. That it reminded her of Manny, Gloria, and Jay. That statement is sooooo true! I feel like I'm trapped in some Modern Family moments....LOL
It's simple things like this that sometimes make me laugh. Although the mexican speaks English, the accent is still there.
this was a quickie......
more to come.
NEW CODE
LOL!
ReplyDeleteYou followed me on Twitter and I just followed you back. I'm a gringa married to a Salvadoran. It's been 13 years and we have 2 sons.
I remember the pre-school days though. Yeah, Daddy wasn't allowed to help with alphabet/phonics, etc. because it was too confusing... Just wait a few years. Hopefully your husband will be helpful with other homework. I suck at math so when the kids bring home Algebra, that is totally my husband's area of expertise. Language Arts/Spelling are still all mine though ;)
I'm so glad we are following eachother on twitter! There are things that only gringas can understand when talking to each other when married to hispanic men!
ReplyDeleteYes, i'm going to have to keep Daddy away from the alphabet/spelling words etc...
He was telling my son to write the letter "U" yesterday but pronouncing it "ju" the next thing i know my son is saying ok i'm gonna write a "ju" now and i had to immediately say NO NO NO it's U!! Like YOU!!! LOL
Thanks for your sweet comments!
