Suegra and Hubby

The Mexican and my mother have an interesting relationship.

Although my mother loves him como un hijo and he loves her como una mama, I've never seen two people who love to get such a "rile" out of each another.  They have different political views and my hubby loves to talk politics with his suegra.  I know for a fact it is to get her all worked up.  I think they enjoy arguing... in a fun loving sort of way.

Every Christmas my mom gets to pay him back a little.  My "macho" (in a non-machismo way) hubby always receives a sort of gag gift from my mother.

One year he received a bar of soap with money inside.... so he couldn't get to it right away.
Last year my mom gave him a  fire extinguisher after he almost burnt the house down.
( you can read about that incident here: A Gift from my Mother )

She loves to see his reaction.  I do too!

I couldn't wait to see what hubby was going to receive this year.

Christmas Eve we opened presents.

I was all eyes once he had my mom's gift to him in hand.

~This year The Mexican received~

A sewing kit!!

To see my macho hubby open up a sewing kit made me laugh out loud!  Even The Mexican said "Suegra!" and started laughing....

The story behind this is:

One day my husband's button came off of his pants and he asked me to sew it back on for him.  I just looked at him with a blank stare and responded with, "I don't know how to sew!  Maybe my mom can do it for you."  So we hopped in the car and drove to suegra's house.  Once there, my hubby asked her if she had a needle and thread.  He proceeded to explain how his button had come off.  My mother told him to go in the guestroom and give his pants and button to me, it would only take her a minute.  The Mexican  said, "Oh suegra!  I can sew!  I just need the needle and thread."  My mom and I looked at each other and couldn't believe what we were hearing!  He actually admitted he knew how to sew!

My mom handed him some needle and thread.  He pulled up his shirt and proceeded to sew his button back on, standing up, fully clothed!  I think we were more impressed with him sewing the button on while standing and fully clothed.

At any rate, we know who will be doing all the sewing in the family now!

  2. So, so funny! Can your husband teach mine how to sew a button? :-P He seems to think he needs to buy new pants or just wear his belt extra tight! Your mom has quite a sense of humor :D

  3. LOL! Eduardo can probably sew better than myself as well, but he still asks his mom to do it ;)

  4. So cute! ... My husband can sew better than me too. Seems a lot of Latino men can LOL. I wonder what the story is behind that.

  5. Now that's a man! What a cute story, Tara. I'd be afraid to see what my husband would do with a needle and thread (if it's anything like his home improvement escapades with tools : ) I hope you have a wonderful New Year, Amiga y gracias por tu amistad. xoxo
