A Gift from my mother......

My mom always gives the best regalos!

One day I had gone out with my parents.  Upon returning we were all standing in the driveway talking to my sister-in-law, her parents, etc....  The Mexican and I live next door to my brother.  It's great having my cunada, brother and mis sobrinos next door.  Ok, so we were all outside talking.  My son said he was going inside our house to use the bathroom.

All of a sudden my son comes running back outside screaming, "The house is on fire!  The house is on fire!"  We just all turned and looked at him ,(no smoke, no fire alarm) laughed a second, then continued talking.  I thought, I better go check this out......  grabbed my son's hand and we walked inside the house.  Once inside.......yes! i smell smoke!  OH NO! i see smoke!  OMG! is the house on fire????

There is The Mexican waving a towel around  trying to air out the kitchen.  He has the back door open, windows open, but the smoke is still everywhere!

Lately, The Mexican has been making these OUTRAGEOUS tostadas!  I've been raving about them so much and had asked him to make some.  He left oil heating on the stove (for us women, we know better....... i'm gonna cut him some slack, because in all honestly he only knows how to cook one or two things)........

This is what i smelled........  This is what I saw.......

My poor microwave melted.  This is actually a cleaned up pic!  A pic after we had removed all the melted plastic that was just hanging from it.  The oil that was left on the stove heating caught fire and The Mexican not knowing what to do (pour flour on it) had to fight the fire bare handed!  I think he ended up grabbing towels, grabbing the sarten by the handle and throwing it out on the back porch.

He had some minor burns, nothing serious enough to be treated.
He was a tad embarrassed.  I kept his secret.  I didn't make a big deal about it.  We can buy another microwave.  I still wanted to eat tostadas.....

Christmas came and when it was time for The Mexican to open his gift........ here is what my querida mother gave him........................................................................................

I wish you could have seen the look on his face!

A cute little fire extinguisher!  Perfect for the kitchen y mi Mexicano!  He hung it up inside our pantry door.  Easily accessible! So, his secret is still safe.  Although......... i think he may have a hint I told his suegra.....

  8. Very funny story, and I probably think it is funnier than most because I like the Mexican have burnt down a microwave due to a kitchen fire. Glad it all ended well and the fire extinguisher looks great. Also, glad you stopped by my blog. Hope to see you again soon. Take care.

That's classic! To include the fire extinguisher along with the grill! Your parents were thinking ahead! Love it!
Hopefully i'll be replacing the microwave soon. It's killing me seeing it that way, although even burned and all melted...it works great!
    Thanks for posting!

  10. Leslie,
I hope we never have to use it either! The Mexican knows to NEVER EVER leave oil heating on the stove..... now.

Girl, his tostadas are outta this world! They are my favorite! He surprised me with them. Now we are up to two dishes I KNOW he can cook....
    Thanks for posting!!

  11. Jackie,
    Thanks for posting!
I know my son probably thought WE were crazy when we looked at him like HE was crazy.....
I'm glad he came running outside, because The Mexican being so proud would have fought a fire bare handed (well i guess he already has sort of...) before experiencing the embarrassment of having to come outside and get help.....
Hope you've had a great day!
