YAY!
Today it finally happened! Something I thought would never happen.
Let me explain.
My son although 1/2 Mexican has never really "liked" Mexican food. We've offered him different Mexican foods even bribed him to try different Mexican foods, with no luck what so ever.
So today, My hubby prepared tostadas (his specialty). While he was busy making those, I made our son a PB&J sandwich, some chips, and grapes. We sat down to eat. Out of the blue my husband tore off part of his tortilla, scooped some frijoles with queso fresco and offered it to our son. We received the usual response.
"No, I don't like that." Hubby proceeded to tell him, "someday you are going to have to eat Mexican food. Whats going to happen if we go to Mexico one day? We do not eat bread there. Only tortillas!"
Hubby sat the tortilla with beans on our son's plate and said, "I'll just leave this here so you can try it."
Hubby got up from the table to bring some more warm tortillas he had heating on the comal.
Then it happened!
Our son picked it up and took a bite.
I was in shock!
I expected another usual response.... "yuck or ewww."
bur NO.....
He took another bite and then said, "Hmmm, I like this!"
The PB&J was pushed to the side. He joined us in eating tostadas and the world was a better place!
Way to go kiddo! I bet hubby was so proud to see his son's Mexican heritage shining through.
ReplyDeleteJennifer,
ReplyDeleteOH yes! Hubby was very proud!!!! =)
YAY!!! Woo-hoo! As the mom of one very picky eater, I know this is a HUGE victory! :)
ReplyDeleteLeslie,
ReplyDeleteYes it was! I never thought I'd see this day! Now when we eat tostadas, he will be eating them too! Yay!
Yay! Now I think think my hubby would be happy if I liked more Salvadoran food! ha. Love me some Mexican food. LOL
ReplyDeleteCongrats! What a big step! I have 2 picky eaters and I totally get why this is a HUGE reason to celebrate! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of my son who used to say, "I can't like it," and my nephew who said, "I don't sike it." Meals were always challenging in my home and at my sister's. Break him in slow with something mild like sopes. You might want to wait a while (or forever) before trying the menudo.
ReplyDeleteTara, yay! I wish we were picky in our house for the reasons your son is ... I've been on the look-out for tostada shells that our son can eat. So happy for him. Hopefully this will open him up to trying more new foods! *fingers crossed* : )
ReplyDeleteKelsey, Do you like pupusas? That is my favorite Salvadorian dish.... I can't imagine anyone not liking pupusas!!!!
ReplyDeleteJen,Thanks! It was a big step! Tonight I made chicken and rice. Let's see how it goes over!
Rita, You crack me up! I think we will wait until "forever" before I introduce Menudo! I can't even stomach it.....
Ezzy, Good luck on the hunt for tostadas.... I'm sure there has to be some out there. I've got my fingers crossed as well! (hugs)
Yay! Congrats Tara! That is awesome! We've struggled with Lily too. It can be frustrating but how cool to find out that he now loves them! :)
ReplyDeleteChantilly,
ReplyDeleteYay, I know! I am so happy! My pollo con arroz was not a winner with him last night, but I'll keep trying. =)
