Me, "What? You need a what???"
Hubby, "a TRAMP.... for the back yard!"
Me, "You need a TRAMP for the back yard?" (I'm still confused at this point)
Hubby, "Yes. If I can't find one I'll just make one! That damn squirrel is eating all of the bird seed!"
Me, "Ohhhhh.... okay."
I continued folding clothes while giggling on the inside.
It all made sense now...
In Spanish, the word for "TRAP" is pronounced "la TRAMPA!"

Lol! My husband did that to me the other day, too, but I cannot remember what the word was. I'm pretty sure it was something in English that he pronounced so that it sounded like something else. I'm going to have to pay more attention when those things happen, because they can be really funny, like this one.

DeleteYou'll have to start a list! I have a mental one going but I really need to write it down. He said something the other day that was too funny and now I can't remember it. It really is a great part about being married to someone whose 2nd language is English. Always entertaining! (as I'm sure it is for them when we speak Spanish!)
Love it! You guys should have your own sitcom. Really. You could be the new "I Love Lucy"---for real! You make me LOL with your stories :D

DeleteI totes giggled out loud just now. I LOVE all the little language mix ups. My husband STILL says " out like a bug" even though I have told him the saying is " out like a light" .... Sooo funny. Now I think he says it to be funny (and I still giggle everytime!)

My mom has the same problem with her bird feeder. She was always complaining that the turkeys and the squirrels were eating all the bird seeds, but I explained to her that they needed to eat too, so she finally softened up to the idea.
Jackie, no he was just venting. I love seeing the little squirrels run around our yard and even eating our bird seed! I'd never ever let him catch or attempt to catch a squirrel!
DeleteCommon problem with bird feeders. They make one that spins and throws the squirrels off. Their acrobatic abilities are fun to watch (squirrels not your husband - but I've never even met him so he probably a fun guy too).

I guess it is only fair, since we have a habit of throwing a vowel on the end of a word to make it Spanish, that they would do the opposite in an attempt to make it English.
