Crash.......

A couple of days ago I witnessed something unsettling.......

As I pulled into work, one of my coworkers was standing outside of her vehicle surrounded by police crying.  I ran upstairs, went to my little morning meeting, and watched what little I could from the window regarding the drama outside.  When my coworker came upstairs, she was visibly shaken and upset.  I asked her if she was okay and she said yes then quickly went to work.  She was holding back  tears all day.

Finally she came up to me and said, do you know that all of that was over me not wearing my seat belt?  I got a $15 dollar ticket and a ton of embarrassment!  I asked her "all those cop cars came just for you not wearing your seat belt?"  Long story short, she is caucasion and her hubby is african american.  The cop who pulled her over said some things that were out of line.  He searched the vehicle, seperated them, questioned them seperatly while making false accusations, called for back up, did not find anything, so he gave her the ticket and then let them go.

She felt that they were treated so badly by the one officer because they were a mixed couple and clearly he had some race issues to deal with.  The other 2 officers called out, she said were nice and acted kind of ticked off that the other officer called them out and wasted their time.

It made me think of the movie "Crash".  If you have not seen this movie you need to!
This is the best movie!!!!!!  I think it should be required viewing for every human!  Here is some info about CRASH the best movie ever....
It revolves around race issues and all the different characters in the movie are some how connected.  You are less likely to judge a book by the cover after viewing this movie.  It requires us to dig deep within our selves and hopefully learn more about ourselves and the hidden prejudices we may posses.  We experience racism from the perpetrator's side as well as the victim.

Like I said above, I feel it should be required viewing for every HUMAN!

Here is the trailer.  I hope for those who have not seen it you will rent/buy it!  I'd love to hear your thoughts about this movie!

  3. Awww...I'll definitely be watching it soon. You know, this brings up something that I've been meaning to do for a while. I've been wanting to start reviewing films about racism on my blog to give readers an idea of what to watch if they want to learn more. I'm a true believer that films, books and life experiences can change our perceptions and stop racism...if we allow them to. I think I should start that soon. :)

  5. I have never seen this movie. Always thought it had something to do with drugs, not racial prejudice. Now I'll definitely rent it, see if I can stream it off Netflix, so thanks for the recommendation. What happened to your co-worker is awful. Probably racial profiling at its best, right? I can't see recovering from an ordeal like that so easily. I hope she's better.

  8. I can't believe that they're still cops like that in GA, that just makes me feel a little better about being in Mexico, I may have to deal with "mordidas" requests but, no racism.
I am going to see if they have that movie here in Monterrey.
