Twilight Zone

Sometimes I feel like I live in the Twilight Zone!

I was talking to The Mexican while driving home from work.  He asked me to stop and pick up something for our son to eat because he was hungry.  That was fine with me because I had not eaten lunch and was hungry too.  Our son said he wanted a happy meal from McDonalds.  Okay.  I asked my hubby if he wanted anything.
His reply was, "Just get me some fries and an apple pie."
SO THAT IS WHAT I DID!

I come home. Give my son his food, hand hubby his food, get out  my food....
Hubby says, "where's my hamburger?"
Me,  "what?!  you said you wanted fries and an apple pie."
Hubby says, "yeh, but I figured you'd bring me a hamburger too."
Me,   "not if you say you just want fries and a pie."
Hubby says,  "well, you should always get a hamburger too."

**insert twilight zone theme here** (or just press play below)

WTH!????

I rolled my eyes and proceeded to eat MY HAMBURGER!

Yes, that may have been rude.  But what in the hell was the conversation above about?  I'm not a freakin' psychic!

If he would have said,
"I didn't want one but now looking at yours, I wish I would have told you to get me one."
I would have gladly given him 1/2 of mine.

This happens pretty regularly.  I'm always left scratching my head....  I give up!
Does he do this crap on purpose?  Is this a cultural thing? Is this a male thing?   I'm stumped!

  1. I think it's a male thing more than a cultural thing, though if it's cultural, I'd say it's more American, lol. My (American) ex-husband would never understand why I didn't get him things he did not say he wanted when I picked up food, as apparently I should have known to get things that were not explicitly ordered. I'm married to a Guatemalan now, and he is actually more likely to tell me that he only wanted the burger when I bring him home the entire meal with fries.

    1. Thanks for your comment! Ok, so far 1 vote for "male thing".... you know I'm going to keep count and tally up a score for all of us ladies that have had to or are dealing with this crazy attribute!
I stopped by your blog and took a quick peek around. I'm practically falling asleep as I type this. Tomorrow I can't wait to dive into your blog and catch up! You know I love reading about us gringas con esposos latinos!

  2. It's a man thing, Miguel, my brother, cousin, and dad all do it. It drives me literaly crazy, I started getting Moguel the exact thing he said, at first he would get all upset and act spoiled and as if I just didnt care enough to know to get him more than he said. Now, after 5 years, he has finally learnt, I will only get what you say, if you say nothing then, nothing it will be.

    1. Stephanie,
You'd think my hubby would have learned by now also. Why in the world would you say one thing and expect something different! It makes no sense to me.
Hope you are doing good amiga. Tomorrow I'm going over to your blogacito to catch up as well!
      Thanks for commenting!

  3. I beleive it is a male thing, Tara. My husband who is not Latino does the exact same thing. If he doesn't say I don't get it. Or he always mentions something he wanted after I go through the drive thru. Come on, you couldn't tell me twenty minutes ago. Man thing...

  8. Im thinking a man thing AND cultural thing. Man thing because he wants you to read his mind, and cultural thing because he expects you (maybe) to give him your burger because you didnt read his mind.

I witness my MIL and SIL surrender their food, drink, candy etc alllll the time for the men in our family. Maybe my family was just the bomb gentlemen-like, but my father/ brother would never have accepted someoneelses meal in that fashion. What do you think about that theory?

And thanks for stopping by my blog!

    1. You are probably right. I'm sure if I had tried to give hubby 1/2 he would have declined and INSISTED I should have known to bring him a hamburger. I refuse to put up with any type of (mind) games so that is why I nipped it in the bud and just ate it! haha! game over! even if the games are unintentional....

  9. LOL, I can totally relate! I think it's a man thing, but with a little cultural thing mixed in :) And with food, I ALWAYS get more food than what was asked for because I just know he will want it!
