During my most recent shopping trip, I saw some interesting items...
Look at this! All I need to do, is add vodka to this tacon (high heel) and it's party time...
I would love to see the look on the Mexican's face when I hand him a drink en un tacon! (in a high heel) I think he may be a little too "macho" for that, so guess I'll have to enjoy with friends....
There are plenty of tacones available, so although I did not pick any up this time.... I may on the next trip.
I have to admit there have been times at work, at a restaurant, at a friend's house etc. when I've really wished I had some hot sauce with me. Sometimes I like to spice things up. Sometimes I think to my self, "this would be so much better with some hot sauce!" So, for all you hot sauce lovers out there.... look what I found!
Isn't the packaging cute? I loved the cut out chili peppers. Would it be rude if I pulled one of these little bottles out of my purse?
Last but not least, I wonder if this is any good...
Look under the word Mustard.... huh? mucho caliente?
I'd probably like it. After all, it says it's "mucho caliente" and you know I really like things that are "mucho caliente"..... I prefer "mucho caliente" over "muy caliente" anyday!
LOL (non spanish speaker must have printed the label.... unless I'm wrong and "mucho caliente" is correct)
One of the cool things we love about our little city is this man.
We usually run into him outside of various shopping centers and gas stations. Although he recognizes us and we recognize him, we still do not know his name.
He is always singing the blues! His songs never get ya down..... they always make us feel good. So whenever we see this gentleman, we stop what we are doing, take a break, enjoy his music, and give a little donation.
We ran into him a couple of days ago. We gave a little extra and he gave us permission to record.
Enjoy....
(on a side note, I must have been in a really talkative excited mood that day. I had to edit out like a 5 min. conversation before he started singing. please over look my giddiness.... )
We decided to have some family fun and take our little guy to Stone Mountain Park to see the Laser Show. It had been years since The Mexican and I saw it.
Our original plan was to pick up some food from Subway or KFC and have a picnic on the lawn while waiting for the show to start. (this is what most people do). Our son was hungry and in order to avoid a melt down we decided it was best to stop and eat somewhere.
If you've never been or are in the area and want something fun and inexpensive to do, the laser show is something to put on your list. It is $10 per car to enter the park. No matter how many people you cram into your car, the price is still $10. The actual show is free. Not too bad.
We got our blanket out of the car and started walking to the lawn area. The Mexican proceeded to doubt me and said, "Your bringing a blanket? I don't see anyone else with a blanket." I replied with, "Don't doubt the gringa! I've lived here for almost 25 years and have been to the laser show a million times. I know what to do!" Just then another group of people passed us with their blankets. (haha! told ya so!)
We found a spot on the lawn and spread out our blanket. I knew to get there early. If you wait too late, forget finding a spot on the lawn. The actual laser show doesn't start until it is dark outside. I knew we would have some time to kill (hence bringing a picnic) so I made sure I brought our son some toys in my purse.
It was fun sitting there listening to the music being played over the speakers and people watching (one of my favorite things to do).
My son asked why there were Mexican men riding horses on the front of the mountain. After holding back some laughter (he's only 5...) I explained it is actually a carving of confederate soldiers (Jefferson Davis, Stonewall Jackson, and Robert E. Lee).
It finally started getting dark. By this time most people's shoes were off, people were dancing to the electric slide on the finely manicured lawn and kids were playing. Vendors were walking around selling glow in the dark toys.
The laser show started. It brought back memories of my childhood. I remember going with my parents and now I was there with my family. The show has changed a little. There are a couple of 3D moments and the mountain looks like it is crumbling during one part. The finale is always the best. This was the first time my son had seen professional fireworks.
Here is a little snippet of the ending. (you may want to lower your volume, it's loud)
Great fireworks at the ending!
It was a fun evening for sure. To learn more about the laser show and all the things Stone Mountain Park has to offer CLICK HERE.
Si leen mi blog, saben que me encanta la novela "Teresa." Todas las noches la miro. Muchas veces he tratadoconvencer a mi esposo ver lanovelaconmigo.
Me contesto, "QUE! Ella esta bien?" Yo, "Si, esta viva pero esta en el hospital en coma. No puede moverse." Mi esposo, "en que hospital esta? Se encuentra bien?" Yo, "No se cual hospital, esta donde ella vive. Los doctores estan esperando que se levante de coma." Mi esposo, "Ya hablastes con tus papas? Que te dijeron? La podemos visitar?" Yo, "Que? De quien hablas? Mi esposo, "De tu prima, no me dijistes que ellos le dieron un balaso?"
Yo, "No a Tina! A "Teresa!"
El Mexicano me dijo que no quiere saber nada mas de "Teresa." Despues de casi darle un ataque de corazon, creo que si.... no voy a contarle nada mas.
If you readmyblog then youknow thatI love thenovel "Teresa." Every nightI watch it. Manytimes I have triedto convince myhusbandto watchthe novel (spanish soap-opera)with me.He doesn't like them.
El Mexicano usuallyreturns onthe weekendsfrom his trips. When he returns, I always have tons of news. The other dayhe returned from work andopened the door, I quickly startedtalking about everything going on here.I told him aboutour son, about mywork, andabout how "Teresa"got shot.
Hereplied, "WHAT! Is sheokay?" Me, "Yes, she is alive but in the hospitaland in a coma. She can't move." My husband, "Which hospital is she in? Is she going to be alright?"
Me, "I do not know which hospital, it's the hospitalwhere she lives. The doctorsare waitingfor her to come out ofthe coma." My husband,"Have you talkedwith your parents? What did they say? Can we visit?"
Me,"What?Who are you talking about? My husband, "Your cousin! Didn't you just tell me she was shot?"
Me,"NotTina!Teresa! "
The Mexican told me he didn't want to know anything else about "Teresa." After almost giving him a heart attack, I think he's right. I'm not going to tell him anything else.
I am so overdue for a Teresa update. I've waited so long and so much has happened that I have no idea if I will remember everything.... The novela is in it's final weeks and I'm pretty upset about that. I'm going to miss Teresa when she is gone.
Where to start.... I've got tons to cover. All the story lines intertwine and it's hard to cover just one character. I'm going to touch on the most important highlights or I'll never finish this post.
Teresa is one cold hearted b*$#&. I still love her though. She's been busy playing with people's hearts and minds.
Aida, although Aida started off getting close to Mauriano just to get back at Teresa, she ended up falling for Mauriano. They dated for a while and it really pissed Teresa off. Aida calmed down bashing todos los pobres de la vencidad. She sort of became humbled. In the meantime she found out Esperanza (her daddy's mistress) was preggers! She convinced her mom to file for divorce. Aida and her mother also discovered her father was involved in some fraudulent activities, notified the police, and he was arrested. Mauriano broke up with Aida because she was harrassing Esperanza in the hospital. (Esperanza was placed on bedrest and was at risk of losing her baby)
Mauriano, has finally seen the light! He has finally seen how Teresa lies and lies then lies some more. Mauriano made a fool of him self at the church by busting into the wedding and telling Teresa to not marry Arturo. After waking up and smelling the coffee, he concentrated on working in the dinspensario (not sure of correct spelling) and ended up dating Aida. Aida was ready to move in with Mauriano but then she started freaking out and acting crazy at the hospital (see above), Mauriano couldn't have that. He now realizes he has feelings for Aurora! (yay!!) Teresa makes her occasional pop in suprise, but Mauriano has stuck to his guns and not fallen for Teresa's seductive ways.
Aurora's mother popped into town. She ended up being complete trash. Only after money. She re-broke Aurora's heart. Aurora did tell her off though and it was great! Aurora was almost ready to marry Martin. She can not deny that she still has feelings for Mauriano though... Martin knows this and broke off the engagement.
Ruben (Aida's father) went to jail (hahaahahaaaa). He and Paulo's mother (can't remember her name) are in ca-hoots together and divising a plan to kidnap Esperanza's baby and raise it as their child.
Paloma died. She was hit by a car. While in the hospital and on her deathbed she confessed to Teresa that her and Arturo slept together.
Arturo was devestated by Paloma's death. He pulled it together though. Once Teresa learned about Arturo and Paloma sleeping together all HELL broke loose. She was all over that like white on rice.... Of course she had every right to be but she failed to mention she slept with Mauriano the night before their wedding.
Anyways, she threatned divorce and made Arturo take her on this expensive trip to Europe, buy her all kinds of stuff etc... Finally they decided to work on their marraige and save it. Arturo confessed to Teresa he was working on this really big case and if he lost he would lose millions.... That got Teresa's attention! She helped him with the case etc... It looked like all was good until Arturo gave Teresa's father some papers to be delivered relating to the case. Teresa's father was attacked. (by Fito- the guy who Teresa paid to get Paulo addicted to drugs) Fito, took the papers with him. Arturo ended up losing the case. Now he is in financial ruin. The client who he was representing and lost, showed up at the house with a gun. Teresa got in the middle of them and was shot.
Teresa, went to the hospital and was paralyzed for a while. She has recovered. Once home, Arturo found out that Teresa slept with Mauriano and married him for money.(he even had proof) He was FURIOSO! He wanted a divorce and told Teresa to get out! Teresa was crying and packing her bags when Arturo had a change of heart. He told her he still loves her and to stay. Once again, they decided to work it out. Arturo is starting to catch on to Teresa's true nature. Arturo decided to test Teresa. Since he lost the case, he lost all of his fortuna. They had to move out of the house, sell the car, etc... No worries, Arturo found them another house...... in la vencidad! Teresa is freaking out over having to live there again. She is sad and mad that Mauriano is luchando por el amor de Aurora. She is pissed Arturo has her living in la vencidad. Teresa is working on a plan..... I'm not sure what it is but she has her eye on Fernando.
Fernando is engaged to Luisa (Arturo's sister). He has a strong attraction to Teresa. Fernando's mother came for a visit. Fernando's mother is all about social class. She can't stand Teresa because she comes from la pobreza. She gives Teresa a hard time, always humiliating her. So far it seems this woman might be able to take Teresa on. Teresa is determined to have the final word though and hit her where it will hurt most.... her son!
So, this is where we are at. I guess the finale is just around the corner.
To be continued......

This evening we went out to dinner. On our way home, my husband and I were talking. All of a sudden in mid conversation, The Mexican says, "You know how I roll..."
My eyes got really big and I looked at him all crazy. I was in a little bit of shock. Where in the world did he pick that up? I felt a strong urge to laugh, but didn't! He said it perfectly.
We continued talking. I was letting loose and venting up a storm. I proceeded sharing my thoughts about work politics etc. Once again The Mexican surprised me by nodding his head and saying, "True dat.."
This time I couldn't help my self and let out a small giggle. Who has he been talking to? Is he picking this up from the guys at work?
Once home, my hubby was showing me a website he's been working on. I was complimenting him on how awesome it looked and what a great concept it was. To which his reply was, "It's a bomb!" I couldn't help myself. I busted out laughing. I almost fell out of my chair and onto the floor. He was looking at me like 'what?". I blurted out, "You mean,... It's the bomb!"
I needed that laugh! I'm sure I'd be providing him with the same humor if we were in Mexico and I was repeating slang I had heard. He was due for a Mexican-ism!
Long story short, It doesn't take long to build up debt. Paying it off is a different story. I debated on whether I should even blog about this. I mean, it is sort of personal. The Mexican es muy privado. Hard to believe I know... with a blogging wife who uses his picture all the time. I decided to go ahead in the hopes that if anyone out there in blogger land is feeling the stress of debt, they will read this and know it is possible.
I knew it was time to do something when every single cent we made was going towards bills and living expenses. Since I was the one who did our bills (my hubby basically handed me his paycheck) I was more intune as to how bad our situation was. I felt like we were suffocating. We were always playing catch up. Always on payment plans. Using change for gas. Started receiving calls from bill collectors. I could go into more detail, but just know... it was bad!
Once my husbandand and I discussed things, we were in agreement something had to be done now! Now! that our son was young. We didn't want things to continue to spiral out of control and end up in a worse situation years from now. We didn't want our son to experience any hardships due to our bad financial decisions.
We were living paycheck to paycheck and it was hard to come up with any extra money to even make a dent in what we owed. So where did we start?
First, we cut out anything that was not a necessity.
We got rid of cable t.v.- Actually, this was easier than anticipated. This freed up a good bit of $$$. Its ridiculous how much we paid for satellite/cable t.v.. We bought a digital t.v. antenna from Wal-mart, mi mexicano mounted it on the side of the house, and ta-da! Digital t.v.. We receive a good amount of stations. Really, I can't believe what a rip off cable/satellite is. We have not been deprived at all. We are at work daily anyways. We have a limited amount of time to watch t.v.. We get all the normal local channels plus 3 channels en espanol, 3 different PBS channels, even MTV tres, music channels, and more. My son didn't suffer at all. He has 3 channels that are geared towards children available 24/7. (and best of all, the shows are educational...not mind numbing like "Spongebob," not that anything is wrong with Spongebob, because I LOVE Spongebob...just making a point) and all FOR FREE!!!
We did away with our home phone service. We use cellphones. Why do we need a home phone?
Second, we searched out the best deals for services we did need.
We switched to the cheapest cell phone provider we could find. Here in our area that is Metro PCS. Luckily our contract was up with Verizon. Both of our phones were able to be used with Metro PCS. We had unlimited talk, text, and web for $80 per month ($40 ea. phone)
We switched to a different trash service. It was cheaper, plus when signing up you got your 1st three months free!
We even did away with grocery shopping! For the 1st six months we bought our food through Angel Food Ministries . We bought a $35 box of food which suprisingly would last us 2 weeks. We live in the city where Angel Food Ministries was founded. We would go to the distribution center to pick up our food. I'm not sure if this is something they did for everyone or just the people who went to the distrubution center....but, sometimes we would receive 2 or 3 boxes of food when we had only paid for 1. They would always say, "Please take it, it is something we are doing today. God bless!" It really was a blessing! If you or someone you know is in need of food, not eating healthy due to the cost of food, having a hard time, trying to get their financial situation under control etc.... I highly suggest visiting www.angelfoodministries.com
I contacted our insurance agent and made sure they were giving us the best rates on car and home insurance. Guess what! We got it lowered!
Third we came up with a budget and other plans....
We got on a Debt Management Plan. Yes, I know we probably could have filed for bankruptcy but The Mexican was totally against it. The debt management plan was great though. They were able to get the collection calls stopped, and interest rates lowered. We paid one monthly fee and they distributed the amounts to the credit card companies. I think they charged $3 a month for this service.
We did away with our checks and paid everything in cash! We paid daycare, electric, gas and water all with cash. We had no false sense of having money. We could see it with our own eyes! No money, meant there is really no money! No using our ATM/Debit/Credit cards for anything!
No eating out. We made breakfast at home. No stopping for coffee or a cappuccino on our way to work. We brought our lunch to work. We prepared and ate dinner at home.
The Mexican and I did not buy any clothes. My work provided me with uniforms. When it was getting close to Christmas, my mom always ask for a list of possible gifts. I'd always tell her shoes for me, work shirts, shoes, jeans for The Mexican. Whatever we needed most. Luckily, I have some awesome friends who have kids older than my son. I was always receiving hand me downs. With a growing child this was a big blessing.
Very limited entertainment. No movies, bowling, fairs, zoo, NADA. Lot's of trips to the park and we did make an occasional trip to the dollar theatre. Birthday parties always provided fun entertainment for my son. Luckily my nephews live next door and that is unlimited entertainment!
During the four years it has taken us,
my husband had a job change and was laid off. That did not stop us. We remained determined and we ended up paying off the one car we still had a loan on. We ended up buying a junker (well, it looks like a junker, but runs spectacular!) for my husband to drive due to the work van using so much in gas. We actually have money in savings and it will continue to grow from here.
We can now,
buy clothes, get my hair done! get manis and pedis..... not trying to go overboard. The clothes are a must! My hair is a must! The mani and pedi is a treat to myself occasionally.
I do not think we will get cable/satellite back. There is so much available online. It's almost like flushing good money down the toilet now. We will continue what we have been doing. Its like a routine. We may occasionally splurge on going out to eat or something, but our main goal now is to save.
The Mexican was very supportive and there was no way we could have done it without being on the same page. It took us a while to get on the same page, but once there..... there was no turning back! He would always tell me, "This is a piece of cake! We can do this! When I lived in Mexico.........." (then he'd tell me about stories of growing up in poverty and although it seemed bad at the moment, it could be a lot worse)
He was right and I'm glad I had him to fall back on.
I can not begin to describe the feeling of knowing besides our home, we are completely debt free!
This was a hard lesson to learn. I know that after all the hard work we have put into getting out of debt, we will never make the same choices again when it comes to money.
I prefer to have this feeling over holding a designer bag ANYDAY!
What do you do on a lazy afternoon with 3 rambunctious boys? Have a party! First we put on our Tampico sunglasses and got some energy out!
They really worked up a thirst
Oh yeh! Those are my little rockstars!
They had a lot of fun!
Did you know that Tampico now has 20 oz. bottles? Que convenient! Glad I picked some up and let the boys have fun!
Tampico is hosting a photo contest "Unique Like You" where you can totally trick-out your photos and possibly appear on Tampico's photo mosaic. If you win the grand prize you receive a very cool Digital Rock Star Kit, which includes a laptop computer along with other really cool items. Visit www.Tampico.com for more info.
We tried Tropical Punch (cherry, orange & pineapple) and Mango Punch (mango, orange, & tangerine) The kids liked Tropical punch the best. My hubby and I liked Mango Punch! Mmmm! I'm so glad we can pick these up in the 20 oz. bottles. It makes it very convenient when your on the go and craving Tampico!

I have decided to participate in Nina on the Moon's TRUTH tuesDAY
Read more about it by clicking on the link above.
Basically, on Tuesdays I will be writing one sentence telling a specific truth. No explanation. It could be about me, The Mexican, our hopes, our dreams, an achievment , an accomplishment, a fear, etc...
You get the picture.
The more the merrier, so feel free to join in.
Here it goes, my 1st truth:
I remember how it affected me as a child and I see myself repeating it.... no more!
A month or so ago, The Mexican and I went to Wal-Mart to put gas in the car. There was a long line! The Mexican pumped and I went to pay. There were about 4 people in front of me and 3 people behind me waiting to pay. All of a sudden I feel a tap on my back. This man who was not in line comes up to me and says,
Him- "Mam, my wife and I have an emergency and I can't wait to pay. Do you mind if I give you my Wal-Mart gift card in exchange for $20?
(you can buy gas with Wal-Mart gift card.)
Me- Ummm, yeah I mind! Sorry but you'll have to get it from someone else.
I remember being not so cheerful that day and what I really wanted to say was... What do I look like? An idiot? I'm not falling for that! Find some other idiot! I mean really, do you think I'm not quick enough to figure out that if you give me your gift card (which probably has NO money on it) and I give you a 20, your going to be able to get gas? What are you going to do? Swipe the twenty dollar bill at the pump? It makes more sense to swipe your fake gift card dude!
He didn't ask anyone else. He walked away, clearly pissed off, so I'm kind of glad I didn't go off on a rant. Once I made it through the line and back to the car, we began to pull off. There he was sitting in his car around the corner with some woman. I guess they were waiting for the next person that looked vulnerable.
A couple of weeks later I was at Walmart grocery shopping. I was in the produce section and my son says, "Mommy, you didn't get mangoes!" (he loves mangoes) Having already passed them I turned my buggy around. All of a sudden this woman appears out of nowhere screaming,
Her-"what is your problem?"
Me- (looking confused) "are you talking to me?"
Her-"Yeah! you almost hit me with your buggy, do you have a problem?"
Me- "I don't have a problem, it sounds like you are the one that has a problem, you were no where in sight when I turned my buggy around. Know what, just go ahead...."
There was a man standing right beside me watching the whole thing. He says to me, "Did I miss something?" I replied, "Apparently we both did." He responds with, "She's crazy!"
ummmm, ya think?!!
About 3 minutes later an employee came up to me and asked if I was okay. I told her yes then explained to her how she just came up to me screaming, etc... The employee proceeded to tell me that the woman frequents the store quite a bit and has "mental issues." Just about that time we hear her screaming at some poor elderly man. "Are you squeezing those tomatoes? I saw you squeezing the tomatoes! You can't squeeze the tomatoes!"
OMG, let me get the hell outta here!
I've noticed I'm becoming more and more outspoken! Hope I do not get into some type of fist fight one day! I'd loose! I'm not a fighter. I've also noticed that it is harder and harder to keep my mouth shut. Especially when it involves me or my family.
I know that I look vulnerable. I look like I would not speak up. Maybe that makes me an easy target. Oh well.... maybe I'll loose my vulnerable look one day or maybe I should stop going to WalMart.
I never realized how busy "DJs" are in the Latin community! Parties, weddings, quinceaneras, graduations, birthdays, even baptisms! Basically, if there is any type of party, there is a need for a DJ.
When I met mi Mexicano, I knew he was "into" DJing, but little did I know or understand.....
Once we moved in together I started noticing speakers popping up, then amplifiers, then equipment I didn't recognize. Music was always going at our house which was fine with me. I was all about some Cumbia! Los ritmos me encanto! (I love the rhythms.)
He DJed a couple of parties here and there. I would go with him and sit by the equipment. Helping with whatever I could. Some of the guests occasionally stared at me. Probably wondering "porque esa gringa esta aqui???" I didn't care. Occasionally the host would offer my husband and I a plate of food. Que rico! Tamales....yum yum yum. Oh, and I loved the music and watching the people dance.
The Mexican's popularity started growing. Formerly known as DJ LATINO (when in NewYork) He was now known as
DJ CASTILLO
I was content with the occasional party. The extra money was cool!
I was pregnant by this time.
The Mexican decided to purchase some extra equipment and start video mixing! Well that took off like crazy! Before I knew it he was DJing at clubs!
and was now known as
VJ CASTILLO
Of course DJing at clubs would come around once I was pregnant! I should have taken my happy, fat butt up to da club feelin' nauseas and all swollen! I didn't though. I was worried the loud music and vibrations from being so close to the speakers would affect my unborn child somehow.
Every weekend my husband would have a gig The extra income was ROCKIN"! The downside was he usually came rolling in the door around 4 AM and if he had a gig Sunday night, Monday when he got up to go to his regular 9-5, he was GRUMPY!
The closer I got to my due date, the more nervous I became that I would go into labor while he was DJing! I constantly reminded him, "Make sure you have your phone on vibrate! Make sure you check your phone every hour, even if you don't feel it vibrate! Make sure you check your texts! I even had my friend prepared to make an emergency trip to the appropriate Latin club if needed....
Luckily that never happened and I went into labor during the middle of the week, during the day.
Once our son was born, the gigs slowed down. The Mexican wanted to be home with us on the weekends and just do occasional small parties on the side. He transformed our garage into a mini DJ studio. (Thank goodness! Sometimes the constant BOOM BOOM BOOM from the bassgave me a headache! At least in the garage it was more like a muffled BOOM BOOM BOOM....
Our neighbors probably wondered what in the hell we were doing. Music blarin' , house shaking.... but it was all good apparently.... the cops were never called. We were respectful and no loud music after 8 p.m. Actually, I think we were quite the entertainers for our neighborhood. I mean, who wouldn't enjoy working out in their yard while listening to Celso Pina y Control Machete?
(tried to find the music video, but they were all poor quality. So here is the musica!)
